Today: real news in the language you read

Every day ContextCat puts together an edition of headlines from real outlets in the language you read. Open a story and it opens in the reader, where every word can be tapped.

The Today edition in ContextCat: a lead story and sections such as Curiosities, with the outlet and time above each headline.

What is in the edition

Sections for world news, technology, curiosities, culture, sport and games, and food and travel, plus a section of local outlets in your reading language. Every one of the 39 reading languages has its own outlets. English has the most, with more than 30. The others have four to seven each, from public broadcasters, science magazines and easy-language news.

Some of those are written for learners, such as RFI Journal en français facile, nachrichtenleicht and DW Langsam gesprochene Nachrichten in German, NOS Jeugdjournaal in Dutch, 8 Sidor in Swedish and Yle Selkouutiset in Finnish.

Long-press a headline to hide its outlet or its whole section if it is not for you. You can undo it right away.

How a story opens

ContextCat keeps only the headlines. When you open one, your iPhone loads the article from the outlet's own page and lays out the text in the reader, so you can tap words in it like anything else.

Some pages cannot be read this way, because of a paywall, a consent screen or a page that is not really an article. Those open in a browser inside the app instead.

What news articles do not have

Listen and Ask work on books, PDFs and your own texts. They are not available on news articles, which ContextCat does not store.

Today is free to read. Word explanations count toward the free allowance. Pricing
