About ContextCat
Who makes it, and what it stands for
ContextCat is an iPhone app for reading in another language: tap any word and it explains what the word means in that sentence, in your own language.
It is for two kinds of people. Learners who would rather read the news, a novel or an article than do another drill. And readers who need to get through a PDF, a letter or a book in a language they only half know.
Who makes ContextCat
ContextCat is made by an independent developer. One person designs and builds the app and the service behind it, and writes the guides on this site.
Questions, ideas and corrections go straight to the person who builds it: indie.yt.tr@gmail.com.
What ContextCat believes
- Reading is the practice. Real texts, in the language they were written in. Everything in the app serves the next sentence.
- The meaning that fits. A word means one thing in the sentence you are reading. That is the meaning you should see, in your own language.
- Calm over loud. No streak alarms, no badges, no confetti. A quiet page and the text.
- Every language counts. The app and its explanations work in all 39 of its languages, not just English.
- Honest about limits. Explanations are written by AI and are sometimes wrong. ContextCat is not a course and does not teach you to speak.
How ContextCat makes money
From one subscription, ContextCat Pro. The free plan lets you try every part of the app. ContextCat does not sell data and does not show ads; the privacy policy has the details.
How the guides and comparisons are written
Guides answer questions learners and readers actually ask, cite research where there is research, and show the date they were last reviewed. Comparisons use each company's own website or App Store listing, checked on the date shown, and say plainly where another app is the better choice. If something is wrong or out of date, write to indie.yt.tr@gmail.com and it will be fixed.
